此次會議希冀在新物質、物理、感官環境強勢施力於日常經驗與智識活動的此刻,藉機重探一個古老命題,即經驗與媒介性、技術性的關係。會議幾位受邀講員在這個題目上各有創見。主題講者 Martin Jay 是備受敬重的思想史與美學專家,將帶來特別針對大會主題而寫的演講。三位大會講員中,Bernard Dionysius Geoghegan 是近年極受矚目的新銳媒介理論家,關於媒介理論對人文學研究方法帶來的刺激具有獨到見解;Eyal Amiran 則從文學研究轉進新媒體研究,關心數位時代控制機制在思想史面向的意義;而 Kate Marshall 專長是結合媒介理論、系統理論與文本研究,能敏銳分析外在媒介性物件如何影響文學的提問形式。

為了充分利用此次與他們交流的機會,我們將於八月底舉辦一場關於方法論的工作坊,閱讀三位大會講員的代表性著述,兼及科技史學者 John Tresch 以及近年在東亞研究領域結合媒介理論與電影研究、批判式文化研究的新興學者 Weihong Bao、Paul Roquet 之論著,看他們如何示範新的研究方法可能。

工作坊歡迎學者、學生參加。報名者請以全程參與為目標,但不必有會前預習所有閱讀材料的壓力,可挑選自己感興趣的幾篇文章事先閱讀,將問題帶到聚會現場。每一場次將先由每位導讀人各以 20-25 分鐘介紹各篇重點,然後開放討論。座位有限,敬請事先報名。(報名成功者會收到確認信及閱讀材料連結。)
